Exam date changed after Bakrid holiday

Law Faculty students of Delhi University have got a big relief. The university has postponed the examination scheduled to be held on 28 May 2026. This decision was taken after the declaration of Bakrid i.e. Eid-ul-Zuha holiday.

The matter came to light when a law faculty student filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the exam date. The student said that the Central Government has already declared Bakrid holiday on May 28, hence conducting the examination on the same day is not in the interest of the students.

University gave new information in High Court

This case was heard in the court of Justice Jasmeet Singh. During the hearing, Delhi University said that a separate examination will be conducted for those students who will not be able to appear in the examination due to religious reasons.

The university told the court that the examination of May 28 will now be held after July 4, 2026. However, the new exam date has not been released yet. The court directed that the new date be sent to the students through email at least a week in advance so that they get enough time to prepare.

There was controversy regarding “Public Policy and Administration” examination.

This dispute was regarding the examination of the subject “Public Policy and Administration” of the sixth semester of the Integrated Law course. The exam was earlier scheduled for May 28, but after it was declared a holiday, students started protesting against it.

In the petition, the students cited Articles 14, 21 and 25 of the Constitution and said that conducting the examination on a religious festival is against the fundamental rights. The students argued that they could not be forced to choose between examinations and religious freedom.

Delhi University has also clarified that students who will not be able to appear in the examination due to Bakrid will have to inform the Dean of the Faculty of Law through email. After this, the university will provide information about the new exam date separately to the concerned students.
