Everyone who has booked the Ultraviolette Tesseract electric scooter now has a reason to get disappointed again. The company just conducted an event to announce that the vehicle will be delayed further. The webcast hosted on Ultraviolette’s (UV) official YouTube channel talks about the progress that the Tesseract program has had, the challenges it faced and how the production form will be better than the one already showcased. Most importantly, the video has given a new launch timeline for the product- the first quarter of 2027, mostly in January.

Ultraviolette Automotive, the Indian brand that makes the F77 and Z-47 electric motorcycles announced its first electric scooter, the Tesseract, in March 2025. With its futuristic design and jaw-dropping specifications, the Tesseract attracted a lot of attention. The manufacturer even announced the introductory prices of the scooter- Rs 1.2 lakh, meaning terrific value. This would, however, only apply to the first 10,000 reservations.

It has been 15 months since this happened. The deliveries were originally expected to commence in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026. This, however, got delayed and the deadline was pushed to the second quarter (Q2). This is why when Ultraviolette announced a webcast on May 27, 2026, many including us expected them to announce the start of deliveries or start of production. As it turns out, Ultraviolette just bought themselves more time with the webcast.

In the video, Ultraviolette founders talk about the various difficulties they faced with the development process. From what we understand, the Tesseract has evolved significantly since its last showcase. The production form is getting a massive underpinnings upgrade.

The original plan was to use the same powertrain and platform as the F77 and the more recently launched X-47. These battery packs and electric powertrain are both proven and would be a safe choice. As the scooter got closer to production, UV engineers realised adapting these for the scooter bodystyle raised several packaging restrictions and challenges.

Space and thermal constraints pushed the company to a tricky situation- settle for a compromised underseat storage (the original model had promised 30 litres) or reduce the motor output to 10kW (14hp) from the promised 15kW (20hp). Both these would in a way, break the promise made to people who have already booked the vehicle. Ultraviolette did not want to do the same. It was not ready to give up either.

The engineers started afresh with components like the motor controller, Battery Management System (BMS), vehicle control unit and more. They soon came up with a completely new high-voltage architecture. This re-engineering needed time. The company cites this as the reason for the deliveries getting delayed.

The Tesseract has moved to a 100V architecture- India’s first scooter to use one. Other Ultraviolette models are below 50 Volts. The move to a higher Voltage architecture has made it possible to deliver high power more consistently, even while using lightweight and compact components. It will also enable faster charging, although the company hasn’t commented on it yet. 3.5kWh, 5kWh and 6kWh battery packs will be offered on the production form.

It will ride on 14-inch wheels. The suspension setup will have a telescopic front fork and dual rear shocks. Dual-channel ABS and Traction Control will be standard across the range while an advanced radar technology will be offered on higher trims.

The Tesseract will have a top-speed of 125kph and the webcast showed it outperforming all locally manufactured scooters and even some motorcycles. In some such sprints, it even had a pillion on. UV seems to be readying the highest performing Indian electric scooter.

Taking various customer feedback into account, Ultraviolette Automotive has also made changes to the scooter’s design. Its floorboard has been made more spacious and the seat is now more comfortable for both the rider and pillion. The handlebar placement, windscreen design (and placement), some body panels, and a few other areas of the design have been improved.

The video mentions that the company is currently roadtesting the Tesseract. It is now working towards launching it in the first quarter of 2027. The honest ambition, is to launch it in January. From what we know, the booking count has already crossed 70,000!
