After the crushing defeat of Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the party has suffered another major setback. Senior woman MP of the party Kakoli Ghosh Dastikar has resigned from the post of President of All India Trinamool Mahila Congress. Just a few days ago, the party had removed him from the post of Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha. This responsibility was given to Kalyan Banerjee in his place. Kakoli Ghosh Dastikar is considered a friend of Mamata Banerjee. Both have known each other since the 80s.

My conscience is very troubled: Dastikar

In her letter, Kakoli Ghosh Dastikar wrote, ‘During my tenure it was not possible to stop the inappropriate behavior of another educated woman MP towards women MPs, nor was there adequate support or sympathy from the higher leadership. There is no point in continuing in such a position now. Many serious allegations and incidents to West Bengal and the party in the last decade have deeply troubled my conscience. Corruption in ration distribution, corruption in teacher recruitment and various financial and administrative irregularities created deep anger and distrust among the common people. Apart from this, unnatural deaths have also occurred. The allegations of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and tampering of evidence to the incident have shaken and distressed the society.

He further wrote, I personally felt very deeply the moral impact of these events. Similarly, a number of disturbing allegations to I-PACK, including the influence of various individuals and groups, continue to bother me. I believe that if instead of democratic political culture, opaque and undemocratic influences gradually dominate the organization, then it cannot be considered beneficial for the ideals and traditions of the party.

‘I am not leaving TMC’

He said that I am not motivated by any personal complaint or resentment, but I am taking this decision as per my moral responsibility towards the party, democracy and public life. However, I am not leaving the party as an ordinary worker of All India Trinamool Congress. I will continue my commitment to stand with the people and work in the interest of Bengal.
