A major accident took place at Gandhi Ghat in Patna on Tuesday (May 26, 2026). Three people died due to drowning in Ganga. The deceased have been identified as Chandan Kumar, Samar Kumar and Amit Kumar. A total of five people drowned, out of which two have been rescued. Chandan’s age is around 33-34 years while Amit is 15-16 years old.
Patna district administration said that action was taken immediately after receiving the information and two youths were rescued by the deputed sailors and SDRF team. The bodies of three were taken out of the river.
It was told that these dead bodies are being handed over to their families after taking necessary action. Circle Officer, Patna Sadar and Sub-Divisional Officer, Patna Sadar have been instructed to provide all possible assistance to the affected families at the earliest in the light of the prescribed provisions.
Patna SSP Karthikeya K Sharma said, “This is a very tragic incident and a dedicated team has been deployed to look into these unfortunate incidents and ensure that no further incidents happen… We especially request the parents and relatives to keep a close watch on small children and ensure that they do not go to deep water places.”
According to the information, today (Tuesday) at around 8 am in the morning, 20-year-old Samar Kumar, resident of Kankarbagh, along with his three other friends had reached Gandhi Ghat to take bath in the Ganga. While taking bath, Samar and his friends started drowning. To save himself, Chandan, a resident of Dariyapur, Kadamkuan, was also taking bath. Seeing this, he went to save everyone but he also drowned in the strong current.
