Former Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set for a swift return to the Premier League following West Ham United’s relegation.
Wan-Bissaka moved to Manchester United from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019 for an initial fee of £45 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.
His transfer was approved by then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. After an impressive breakout season at Crystal Palace, where he was recognised as one of the most promising young defenders in the Premier League, Wan-Bissaka quickly established himself as a regular starter at Old Trafford.
He gained a strong reputation for his aggressive one-on-one defending and consistently ranked among the top players for tackles won.
At 28, Wan-Bissaka scored his first professional goal in October 2020 against Newcastle United. He was a key figure during the 2020/21 season when Manchester United reached the Europa League final—losing to Villarreal in a penalty shootout—and secured a second-place finish in the Premier League.
However, Solskjaer’s dismissal marked the beginning of a difficult period for Wan-Bissaka at Old Trafford. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick showed a clear preference for Diogo Dalot, a pattern that persisted under Erik ten Hag.
After the 2022 World Cup, Wan-Bissaka experienced a brief resurgence and managed to regain some confidence from Ten Hag. Nevertheless, with only one year remaining on his contract, Manchester United decided to sell him to West Ham United in 2024 for £15 million.
The DR Congo international had an encouraging debut season at the London Stadium, but the 2025/26 campaign turned out to be disappointing. Despite a 2-0 victory over Leeds United on the final day, the Hammers were relegated from the Premier League.
According to a report by The Telegraph, Everton are interested in signing Wan-Bissaka, allowing the former United defender to make a rapid return to top-flight football.
The publication stated, “Everton have identified Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a £10 million target as several clubs monitor West Ham players following their relegation from the Premier League.”
It further added, “Telegraph Sport understands that West Ham must generate around £150 million through player sales to stabilise their finances, with relegation alone costing the club approximately £100 million.”
“Republic of Ireland international Jake O’Brien operated at right-back last season as Everton pushed for European qualification, but he can also play as a centre-back. Wan-Bissaka would therefore provide valuable depth in a crucial position for Moyes.”
The report also mentioned that other clubs are monitoring Wan-Bissaka’s situation, though it did not specify which ones.
During his time at Manchester United, Wan-Bissaka made 190 appearances across all competitions and was part of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup-winning squads under Ten Hag at Wembley.
