This unique case is from Bahadarpura village of Kandahar tehsil. The wedding of the groom Siddheshwar Pethkar, who lives here, was organized with great pomp on May 20. The wedding celebration was wonderful amidst traditional rituals, wonderful band and grand lighting. Pethkar and his family have gifted accident insurance cover worth Rs 1 lakh each to all 3,465 villagers of the village on the auspicious occasion of marriage. Under this unique initiative, a total group accident insurance of Rs 33.6 crore has been provided. The Pethkar family has paid the premium from their own pocket, which will directly benefit the villagers for a whole year.

The groom’s family says that in rural areas there is often a danger of snake bite, lightning or accidents caused by machinery during farming. Many times, due to these accidents, poor families face financial crisis. Keeping this in mind, it was decided to provide a protective shield to the villagers.

The Pethkar family purchased a group accident insurance policy in the name of the Gram Panchayat. For this, the voter list of the village was handed over to the insurance company, so that every eligible villager can get insurance protection without any discrimination and paper hassles. This policy will remain valid for one year.
