Bengaluru: Passengers and crew members of an IndiGo flight were evacuated on Tuesday after smoke was detected from it the Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport The flight was preparing for take-off for Chennai airport when the smoke was detected.
IndiGo issues statementSharing information, IndiGo said that no one was injured in the incident. The emergency evacuation was ordered when the plane it was taxiing out to the runway for departure. “All customers and crew are safe and have been moved to the terminal, where they are being attended to by our teams to ensure their well-being,” IndiGo said in a statement.
Sharing further details, the IndiGo said that emergency slides were deployed for the evacuation process. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), while confirming the incident, said that the IndiGo flight 6E-6017, experienced smoke in the cabin just before departure.
Similar incident earlier this monthEarlier this month, another IndiGo flight was evacuated in Chandigarh after smoke was detected from a cabin bank. As per the airline, a passenger’s power bank caught fire after the flight was still at the runway. At the time of the incident, the passengers were waiting to get down from the plane.
“On 5 May 2026, while IndiGo flight 6E 108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh was stationary after landing, an incident involving a customer’s personal electronic equipment catching fire was reported,” IndiGo said in a statement. It further said, “In the interest of safety, an immediate evacuation was carried out, and all the relevant authorities were immediately informed. All customers have been safely moved to the terminal and are being attended to by the team to ensure their well-being.”
