Arne Slot is unlikely to be happy if Yan Diomande ends up signing for one of Liverpool’s major European rivals.
On Sunday, Liverpool bid farewell to two of their stalwarts, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, in their final Premier League game of the season against Brentford, which concluded in a 1-1 draw.
Reports now suggest that Liverpool face a serious challenge in their pursuit of Mo Salah’s potential replacement, with a top-performing European powerhouse entering the race.
Salah concluded his Liverpool career in style on Saturday, setting up Curtis Jones for the opening goal and finishing as the Reds’ top provider of Premier League assists.
Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig, who has long been linked as a possible successor to Salah, is now being targeted by current Champions League holders and finalists Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
PSG have eliminated Liverpool from the Champions League in back-to-back seasons, most recently winning their quarter-final tie by an aggregate scoreline of 4-0.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old Diomande is among PSG’s top priorities for the summer, with the French giants’ interest strong enough to leave the final decision to the player himself.
Romano stated: “Get ready because Liverpool want him, PSG want him, and the player along with Leipzig will set the terms.”
He added: “Let me start by telling you that Yan Diomande is absolutely at the top of the shortlist for both Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool. The player is weighing his options carefully — considering the project, contract terms, development path, and manager — and there will be talks with both Liverpool and PSG to determine the best possible move.”
The 19-year-old, who has registered 21 goal contributions in 36 matches this season, is also open to staying at Leipzig, with the German club preparing an improved contract offer.
The proposed deal includes a pay rise extending through 2027, giving Diomande additional time to make the right career choice, and would come with a release clause built into the agreement.
The Leipzig winger, who was featured in FourFourTwo’s ‘The Boy’s A Bit Special’ series, finished the 2025/26 Bundesliga season as the league’s most prolific dribbler by a considerable margin.
Diomande averaged 3.6 successful dribbles per match at a 60% success rate, ahead of Antonio Nusa’s 2.2 at 53% and Michael Olise’s 2.0 at 47%.
Leipzig have secured qualification for the 2026/27 Champions League season, which means Diomande could continue to display his growing talent on Europe’s grandest stage if he opts to remain in Germany for another year.
