Bollywood's biggest controversy of 2026 involves Ranveer Singh and film body FWICE. Ranveer had exited Don 3 in December 2025, reportedly citing script changes as his reason.
His departure came shortly after the massive success of Dhurandhar, Aditya Dhar's spy thriller. Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment is now seeking Rs 45 crore in damages from Ranveer over his sudden exit. The row has now grown into a full-blown industry standoff, with FWICE stepping in and issuing a formal ban against the actor.
Does The Ban On Ranveer Singh Have Legal Implications
The non-cooperation directive issued by FWICE does not have a legal stamp. FWICE is registered as a trade union and is not a judicial body. So legally speaking, the ban carries no real punch in a court of law.
FWICE's non-cooperation directive is more of a collective walkout. Every worker under its umbrella, from the person doing an actor's makeup to the crew member holding the light, has been instructed to stay away from any project connected to Ranveer. A film set runs on these hundreds of hands, so once they all step back, productions can stall.
Therefore, while there is no legal ban on the Lootera actor, he can still face the consequences as people can opt out of projects related to him.
Meanwhile, post the ban, 's side responded by saying that the actor has consciously maintained his silence over the recent developments regarding Don 3. He believes that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity and mutual respect.
Why Is Ranveer Singh Receiving Flak From FWICE
The complaint against Ranveer Singh was reportedly filed by Farhan Akhtar on April 11, 2026, following which the matter was referred to FWICE for further action. The makers informed FWICE that they had already incurred approximately Rs 45 crore towards the pre-production of the film. FWICE issued multiple communications to Ranveer Singh, on April 22, April 30, and May 13, 2026, requesting him to personally appear before the federation and present his version of events. However, as claimed by FWICE, Ranveer did not show up in person for any of these. In his response, Ranveer stated that FWICE would not be the appropriate forum for the complainants to raise their grievances and that the issues raised were contractual in nature, requiring adjudication before the appropriate legal forum.
What Does It All Mean For Ranveer Singh
The ban means that FWICE-affiliated technicians, spot boys, and workers have been instructed not to work with Ranveer Singh until he resolves the dispute with Farhan Akhtar. He may face difficulty shooting or producing new films in India until a conclusion is reached. After the mega success of the Dhurandhar films, Ranveer has been gearing up for his ambitious next, titled Pralay, which he will be bankrolling as well.
