New Delhi, 26 May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge as the Prime Minister of the country on 26 May 2014. While BJP leaders are presenting it as an achievement for being in power for 12 consecutive years, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has made a scathing attack on the central government over the rising prices of petrol and diesel. Kharge posted on social media platform

Citing Press Information Bureau data, he said that on May 26, 2014, when Narendra Modi assumed power, Indian basket crude oil was at $108.05 per barrel and the dollar-rupee exchange rate was at Rs 58.59. At that time petrol was available at Rs 71.51 per liter and diesel at Rs 56.71 per liter. Kharge said that currently the price of crude oil is less than $99 per barrel but the prices of petrol and diesel have increased to Rs 102.12 and Rs 95.20 per liter respectively.

He claimed that despite crude oil being cheaper, petrol has become costlier by about 42.8 percent and diesel by about 67.9 percent. The Congress President said that every economist knows that the inflation of petrol and diesel affects every sector. From transportation to food items. Besides, the burden of inflation increases on the common man. Accusing the government of profiteering, he asked that when crude oil has become cheaper then why the prices of petrol and diesel were not reduced and why relief was not given to the public.

Let us tell you that gas distribution company Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) on Tuesday again announced increase in the prices of CNG. This is the fourth time in less than two weeks that CNG prices have been increased. The price of CNG in Delhi has been increased by Rs 2 per kg. After the new rate of IGL, now CNG will be available in Delhi at Rs 83.09 per kg whereas earlier its price was Rs 81.09 per kg.
