Manchester City have officially announced that Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw has signed a new long-term deal with the club, putting an end to speculation linking her with a move to Chelsea. The Jamaican striker has extended her stay with the reigning Women's Super League champions until 2030, ensuring she remains a central part of City’s future plans.
Shaw secures future with City until 2030
The prolific forward has inked a fresh four-year contract with Manchester City, keeping one of the WSL’s most lethal scorers in sky blue for years to come. The agreement will keep the 29-year-old at the club until 2030, potentially marking nearly a decade of service since her arrival. The announcement was made in style by Shaw herself on stage during City’s 2025-26 After Party, just moments after she received the Etihad Player of the Season award.
Reflecting on her decision to extend her stay, Shaw told the official Manchester City website: “I’m thrilled to be part of this amazing club for another four years. I’ve always said Manchester City feels like home — I’ve grown so much as both a player and a person in my first five years here. Winning the WSL title with the girls has been one of the proudest moments of my career, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead — though we still have one big game to go against Brighton! To all the City fans, thank you for always standing behind us. I’m proud to share this journey with you and can’t wait to see what more we can achieve together.”
Turning down Chelsea’s pursuit
The confirmation comes as a setback for Chelsea, who were strongly linked with the three-time Golden Boot winner. Earlier reports indicated that contract discussions had stalled, sparking speculation that Shaw might leave on a free transfer. However, City have successfully resolved those issues, securing their record goal scorer on renewed terms.
Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor had previously added fuel to the rumours, jokingly saying, “Who wouldn’t have her on their personal wishlist?” when asked about the Jamaican forward. By tying Shaw down to a new four-year deal, City’s Director of Football Therese Sjogran has sent a clear message of intent — Manchester City are ready to compete with Europe’s biggest clubs to retain their top talent.
A season for the record books
Shaw’s contract renewal caps what has been one of the most dominant individual seasons in Women’s Super League history. She powered Manchester City to the title, finishing as the league’s top scorer for a third consecutive season with 21 goals in just 22 matches. In doing so, she became the first player ever in the WSL to surpass 20 goals in three separate campaigns — a testament to her consistency and influence under manager Gareth Taylor.
Beyond her prolific scoring, Shaw’s all-round game has been equally impressive. She led the league in duels won (152) and was among the top players for ball recoveries, highlighting her contribution in both attack and defence. Already the club’s all-time leading scorer, the Jamaican international has now amassed an incredible 117 goals and 28 assists in 137 appearances for Manchester City since joining from Bordeaux in 2021.
Chasing a domestic double
With the WSL crown already secured and her future confirmed, Shaw’s focus now turns to the FA Cup final against Brighton at Wembley. Victory would deliver a historic domestic double for Manchester City and further enhance her glittering career. Director of Football Therese Sjogran emphasized Shaw’s importance, noting her growing leadership role as the team prepares for a return to Champions League football.
Sjogran commented: “It’s a huge statement from City that we’ve retained one of the best centre-forwards in world football, but also from Bunny herself, showing her belief that this is the place for her to continue succeeding. We’re grateful for her ongoing trust in our vision.” With 26 goals across all competitions this season, Shaw is expected to be the key player once again as City aim for silverware at Wembley this weekend.
