As the 2025/26 Premier League season draws to a close, Manchester United are preparing for significant changes within their squad.
Casemiro has already confirmed his exit, while INEOS are determined to part ways with Manuel Ugarte after what has been a disappointing two-year spell at Old Trafford.
Most of the first-team players currently out on loan are expected to move on permanently, though the future of a few squad members remains uncertain.
There are calls from many quarters urging the club to sell Mason Mount, even though both the midfielder and manager Michael Carrick have different intentions for next season.
The same uncertainty surrounds Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch forward is highly regarded for his link-up play and creativity, with several teammates describing him as “underrated.”
However, Zirkzee was brought in as a backup striker and has struggled to make a significant impact in front of goal. With only two goals this season and a total of nine since his £36.5 million transfer, his output has fallen short of expectations.
Despite his desire to stay and compete for a place in the team, United’s co-owners are inclined to recover the amount they invested in him back in 2024.
According to reports from TuttoSport, the Netherlands international’s representative has been actively pursuing a new opportunity and has offered his client to two major Serie A clubs — AS Roma and Juventus.
“Zirkzee is on his way out of Manchester United,” the report states. “His agent, Kia Joorabchian, is negotiating a transfer and has presented him to Roma as well as Juventus.”
The 20-time English champions are hoping that interest from both clubs could lead to a competitive bidding process, allowing them to secure a fee that prevents any financial loss on the versatile attacker.
It is expected that once Joshua Zirkzee departs, the co-owners will reinvest the proceeds to sign an experienced striker who can provide solid backup for Benjamin Sesko.
With Manchester United aiming to compete across all four competitions next season, Sesko will require consistent support, and INEOS will be keen not to repeat the recruitment mistakes made under the Glazer ownership with Rasmus Hojlund.
