Lucknow. A big and important relief news has come to the fore for village heads in Uttar Pradesh. The state government has decided that till the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections, the responsibility of administrator in Gram Panchayats will be handed over to the village heads only. After this decision, the administrative system in more than 57,000 gram panchayats of the state will remain in the hands of the village heads.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved this proposal, after which the Panchayati Raj Department will soon issue an official order in this regard.
Village head will become administrator
According to this decision of the government, now the existing village head will act as the administrator in the Gram Panchayats instead of any external officer. Earlier this responsibility was usually given to ADO Panchayat or other administrative officers. This is the first time that such a large number of village heads in the state are being given the role of administrators directly.
Implemented in more than 57,000 panchayats
This system will be implemented in about 57,694 gram panchayats of the state. In Gram Panchayats whose five-year tenure is ending on 26 May 2026, now only the Gram Pradhan will handle the administrative work till the formation of a new elected unit. With this decision, it is expected that there will be continuity in the work at the Panchayat level.
What is the reason for delay in Panchayat elections?
The main reason for Panchayat elections not being held on time is being said to be the delay in the formation of the Backward Classes Reservation Commission. Although the government has recently issued notification for the formation of the commission, the elections have not been possible immediately due to the time taken in updating the voter list and other processes. In view of these circumstances, the government has decided to implement this interim arrangement.
Administrative work will not be affected
With this decision, the possibility of stoppage of development works in Panchayats has reduced to a great extent. Village heads believe that when administrative responsibility rests with them, the schemes will be implemented more quickly and transparently. Local people also hope that this will make the work at the Panchayat level more smooth.
