This saves time, avoids unnecessary expenses and increases understanding of the vehicle. Especially for daily vehicle users, it is very beneficial to know some basic checks.

1. Check the battery

If the vehicle does not start suddenly, check the battery first. Does the self-start feel weak? Are the lights dimming? Are battery terminals loose or corroded? Check this first. Sometimes the vehicle does not start even due to loose connection.

2. Make sure there is fuel

Although this sounds simple, often the fuel gauge gives a wrong reading or the reserve is exhausted. It is necessary to check the fuel level especially during long rides.

3. Check the tires

If the vehicle pulls or the steering feels heavy, the tire pressure may be low. Is the air pressure correct? Have a tire puncture? Does uneven wear appear? Check this first. Low tire pressure affects both mileage and safety.

4. Check engine oil level

Low engine oil can cause increased engine noise or reduced performance. Oil level can be checked with the help of dipstick. If oil appears too dark or low, servicing may be required.

5. Check coolant level

If the engine is overheating, it is possible that the coolant is low. Coolant tank is not empty right? Does leakage appear? Look at this. Do not open the radiator cap immediately on a hot engine.

6. Do not ignore warning lights

The warning lights appearing on the dashboard indicate the problem of the vehicle. Especially Check engine light, Battery light, ABS warning, Oil warning… If these lights are continuously visible, further inspection may be necessary.

7. Check brake response

If there is an unusual sound or vibration when pressing the brake, there may be a brake pads or brake oil issue. Ignoring brakes for safety is dangerous.

8. Check the bike chain and clutch

Is the chain too loose for bike riders? Does the clutch feel hard? Is gear shifting smooth? Check these as these things indicate the need for basic maintenance.

9. Check fuses and lights

If the headlight, horn or indicators are off, it is not always a major electrical fault. Sometimes the fuse may be blown.

10. Pay attention to unusual sounds

Vehicle noises are often the first indication. E.g. Knocking sound, Grinding noise, Squeaking brakes, Engine vibration etc. Early recognition of these symptoms can prevent major damage.
