Last week to finalize this big agreement Mumbai A high level meeting was held in. Global Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of JSW Group and Uber were present in this meeting, where both the giants signed this strategic partnership. The direct objective of this deal is to make the cab market of Indian cities completely eco-friendly and to provide affordable electric cars to the drivers.
Official statement and goals
What will be the impact on general public and passengers?
This partnership is expected to directly benefit the common commuters of metro cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata. When electric vehicles specially designed for cab service hit the roads, the increasing air pollution in cities will reduce. Additionally, reducing dependence on conventional fuel (petrol-diesel) can also lead to stability in cab fares in the long run.
The deal will also prove beneficial for taxi drivers as JSW and Uber focus on building vehicles that have low maintenance costs and are suitable for the heavy traffic and narrow roads of Indian cities. The next step of the companies is to release detailed plans regarding the production timeline of these vehicles and the network of charging infrastructure.
