Big update on 8th Pay Commission, minimum basic salary can be ₹ 69,000, know how much your salary will increase

Curiosity about the 8th Pay Commission is at its peak for central employees and pensioners. Everyone is eager to know when the new pay scale will be implemented, how much will be the increase in salary and how much arrears will come in the account. At present, the 8th Pay Commission is still in the process. The Commission is taking suggestions and recommendations from different employee organizations, pensioner groups and government departments. Since many complex issues like salaries, allowances, pensions and working conditions are being discussed, it may take some time for the final report to come. However, it is a matter of relief for the employees that whenever it comes into effect, they have full hope of getting a lump sum hefty arrears. When can the recommendations be implemented? In November 2025, the government released the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the 8th Pay Commission. The commission has been given 18 months to prepare its report. According to experts, after submitting the report, the government may take additional 3 to 6 months to implement it. Expected implementation period: second half of 2027 (between July and December 2027). Date of calculation of arrears: Although the recommendations may come into effect in 2027, they can be considered effective from January 2026. In such a situation, employees can get huge arrears of about 20 months at once. What are the demands regarding fitment factor? Various employee unions have put forth their demands before the government regarding minimum wages and fitment factor: NC-JCM and AIDEF: These organizations have demanded a fitment factor of 3.83, which will directly increase the minimum basic salary from ₹ 18,000 to ₹ 69,000. IRTSA (Railway Employees Association): They have suggested fitment factor ranging from 2.92 to 4.38 according to different pay levels. 8th CPC Salary Chart: Know what will be the basic salary on different fitment factors.
