Lewis Hall: Why Jason Wilcox is urging Manchester United to pursue Newcastle’s left-back seriously

Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is reportedly preparing to make a move for Newcastle United’s talented left-back, Lewis Hall, during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Newcastle United endured a disappointing Premier League season under Eddie Howe, finishing 12th in the table and missing out on European qualification for next season.

Last year, striker Alexander Isak pushed for a move away from St. James’ Park, and now the club faces the possibility of losing more key players this summer.

According to reports from CaughtOffside, Lewis Hall — a lifelong Newcastle fan — could be “one of the most intriguing names of the summer window,” as Manchester United have identified the young English full-back as a priority signing.

Hall, who is reportedly valued at around £55 million, has attracted genuine interest from United. Sources indicate that Wilcox is “a big admirer of Hall and is pushing the club to take the deal seriously.”

Wilcox is said to appreciate the 21-year-old’s attributes — being left-footed, Premier League-proven, and technically sound. The former Chelsea academy graduate has often been seen drifting into midfield, demonstrating his composure and intelligence in tight spaces.

United’s current first-choice left-back, Luke Shaw, who unexpectedly featured in all 38 league matches this season, is in need of proper competition following Tyrell Malacia’s departure from Old Trafford.

Recently, The Peoples Person reported that Hall is reconsidering his future at Newcastle after feeling dejected by Thomas Tuchel’s decision to omit him from England’s World Cup squad.

In addition to their pursuit of Hall, United are also said to be targeting Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, who has reportedly been eager to leave the club since January.

Another report claims that Michael Carrick has personally requested the United hierarchy to sign the Italian box-to-box midfielder to strengthen their midfield options.

While Tonali is also on the radar of Manchester City, it is understood that his preference is to move to Old Trafford ahead of the next campaign.
