After the results of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the political scenario of the state has completely changed. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Congress, two big political friends who walked shoulder to shoulder for almost two decades, have now become staunch rivals of each other. On Sunday, senior Congress MP Manikam Tagore gave a befitting reply to the sharp attack on Congress by former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. On Stalin’s statement of ‘never trusting Congress’, Tagore said that Congress has always stood by DMK even in its most difficult times, hence Udhayanidhi making such a statement is completely wrong and indecent.
There is a game going on behind the scenes with BJP: Manikam Tagore
While talking to news agency ANI, Congress MP Manickam Tagore took on Udhayanidhi Stalin. Making a big political revelation, he said, “The Congress party has always stood firm with the principles of secular alliance. But after the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the DMK itself was trying to associate itself with the BJP and AIADMK, which is completely against our basic principles. Any kind of alliance or agreement with the BJP will never be accepted by the Congress.”
Tagore was referring to the alleged behind-the-scenes talks between the two arch-rival parties of Tamil Nadu. It is noteworthy that the President of VCK, which is in the alliance of actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay, had also recently claimed that both DMK and AIADMK had offered him to come together and become the Chief Minister. Countering Stalin’s confidence statement, Tagore reminded that even when the DMK did not have an absolute majority, the Congress had supported them unconditionally.
Udhayanidhi’s anger explodes: ‘Will never trust Congress again’
Earlier, former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin had made very harsh remarks on Congress contesting Tamil Nadu Assembly elections together. Attacking the Congress which has joined hands with Thalapathy Vijay’s party, Stalin had clearly said that DMK will never trust the Congress party in future. Not only this, he also seriously accused the Congress leaders of lacking basic courtesy and gratitude.
‘Congress wins on our credibility, not because of itself’
Continuing his attack on Congress, Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “Because of the grassroots hard work of our cadres and workers, Congress has won five seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The public voted for Congress because they wanted to see Thalapathy MK Stalin as the Chief Minister. But today, in the greed of some political positions, Congress left the alliance without informing us. Now we should never let Congress come close to us in future.” Udhayanidhi even said that BJP’s victory in the country is not because of Prime Minister Modi or Amit Shah, but because of the weaknesses of the Congress party.
Complete command of Tamil Nadu changed after May 4, distance in Lok Sabha also
In fact, the real beginning of the dispute between these two big satraps of Tamil Nadu politics started after May 4, 2026. This strong alliance of about twenty years got shattered like a pack of cards when the Congress Party along with its five MLAs officially announced their support to Thalapathy Vijay’s party ‘Tamiljha Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK). Since this decision, bitterness between the two parties has reached its peak. The situation is such that DMK has flatly refused to sit with Congress MPs even in the Lok Sabha. Although the top leadership of Congress in Delhi has so far maintained silence on this issue, this political war between the two parties at the state level is becoming more aggressive.
