The central government has asked Delhi Gymkhana Club in Central Delhi to vacate its 27.3-acre premises by June 5. Not only this, the government has ordered to hand over the entire complex by June 5. The government has said that this land is necessary to strengthen the defense infrastructure and secure it. After this decision of the Centre, the members of the Gymkhana Club are continuously opposing this decision.

Gymkhana Club members have gone to court against the government’s decision. Delhi High Court will hear this on Tuesday i.e. 26th May. Amidst all these reactions, two reactions have come regarding the Gymkhana Club which have surprised many people.

Kiran Bedi opposed the central government

In fact, former Governor Kiran Bedi, who supported BJP in most of the decisions, has opposed the Central Government and asked it to reconsider this decision. At the same time, Haryana’s senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka, who often opposes the decisions of the BJP government, has welcomed this decision.

IAS Ashok Khemka came in support

IAS Ashok Khemka called this decision of the Center a big step. He expressed his views on social media. Khemka said, ‘Termination of the lease of Delhi Gymkhana Club is a big step of the government. This club is built on prime public land worth more than Rs 10,000 crore. As expected, the established rich will oppose it. The real question is whether the Modi government will stand firm on its decision, or will it ultimately succumb to the pressure of rich people?

What did Kiran Bedi say?

At the same time, the country’s first woman IPS Kiran Bedi strongly criticized the government’s decision on ‘X’. He said, ‘This is very bad. This is really very sad. Hopefully this proposal will be reconsidered.

Recalling the past of the Gymkhana Club, he said that BJP leader Arun Jaitley had built a new pool in the club during his lifetime. Bedi said, ‘Some excellent tennis matches have been played here. There is a lot of history, a lot of memories and great games from many generations associated with this place.

‘Delhi Gymkhana Club is not just a property but it is a part of our institutional and sporting heritage. Change may be necessary but history and heritage should be preserved thoughtfully. We can plan to add something new there too.
