Heartbreaking news is coming from the cricket world. Former Karnataka fast bowler SL Akshay has passed away due to heart attack in the middle of the match. Akshay was playing for Sapphire CC in the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) third division match on Sunday (May 24). After bowling 4 overs during the match, Akshay complained of feeling uncomfortable and walked off the field. He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Akshay was 39 years old. He was a part of the Karnataka team that became Ranji champion in the 2014–15 season. However, he last represented Karnataka in first class cricket in 2012. Akshay played 6 first class matches for Karnataka, in which he took 18 wickets.

Akshay used to give junior level coaching

KSCA has expressed condolences on the demise of Akshay. He said in his statement, ‘Akshay represented Karnataka brilliantly in first class cricket. Even after his playing career, he continued serving cricket with full dedication and passion.

Akshay played a vital role in nurturing and guiding young players as a coach at the junior level, which had a lasting impact on the development of cricket talent in Karnataka. Apart from playing 6 first class matches for Karnataka between 2011 and 2013, he also played 3 List-A and 9 T20 matches. After his retirement from professional cricket, he was involved in coaching with the Karnataka Under-19 team.
