William Saliba has admitted that Paris Saint-Germain continue to be 'a scary team', but the determined Arsenal centre-back believes that the Gunners’ 'best defence' can rise to the occasion and keep Ousmane Dembele and his teammates quiet when the two sides meet. The French defender also expressed his hunger to add more trophies to Arsenal’s cabinet after their recent Premier League triumph.

Arsenal shift attention to continental competition after league success

Following their long-awaited Premier League title win under Mikel Arteta, Saliba made it clear that Arsenal are far from satisfied. The France international, who played a crucial role in the club’s championship campaign, said that the entire squad is now concentrating on achieving more success on the European stage. The Gunners are preparing for a blockbuster UEFA Champions League clash against PSG in Budapest. While acknowledging the immense quality in Luis Enrique’s line-up, particularly in attack, Saliba emphasised that Arsenal’s outstanding defensive record this season gives them belief heading into the tie.

Saliba highlights Arsenal’s desire for continued success

Making it clear that Arsenal’s first Premier League title under Arteta is only the start, Saliba spoke confidently about the group’s ambition. He also recognised the challenge posed by PSG’s attacking threats, including Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

“It would mean a lot,” Saliba told The Standard. “We’ve started with the Premier League, it’s my first one, and I’m really happy. But I’m not satisfied yet. I want more. We have a big opportunity next week in the Champions League, so we must give everything.”

“They were scary last year, and they’re still scary this year. Nothing has changed. We know that to beat them, we’ll have to be at 100%. We’ve had the best defence this season, and when you’re the best, you want to face the best. We’re really looking forward to facing attackers like this next Saturday, and I hope we’ll win that battle.”

Arsenal finally break years of disappointment

Arsenal’s Premier League victory marked the end of several seasons of near misses, as they had finished second for three consecutive campaigns. Saliba admitted those setbacks were tough to handle but made the eventual triumph even sweeter.

“I knew winning the Premier League would be difficult, but after finishing runners-up for three years, it was tough because in those first two seasons, we really deserved to win it,” Saliba explained.

“Every Premier League game is difficult, even when you face the bottom sides. Finally, we’ve won the league, and now we have to push again next season.”

Arsenal set sights on European success

With the domestic title secured, Arsenal’s complete focus shifts to their Champions League encounter against PSG as they aim to capture Europe’s most prestigious trophy for the first time in the club’s history. Saliba and his defensive teammates are preparing for one of their toughest assignments yet against a formidable Parisian attack. However, buoyed by their recent success, confidence remains high within the Arsenal camp as they chase continental glory to add to their Premier League crown.
