A 29-year-old software engineer employed with Cognizant lost his life in the early hours of Saturday after his car rammed into a crane allegedly parked on the road without proper warning signs near Sikanderpur Metro Station.
The deceased, identified as Abhishek Kumar, was originally from Sitamarhi district in Bihar and was returning to his rented residence in DLF Phase-3 when the accident took place around 1.05 am.
Accident Took Place Near Sikanderpur
According to police, the crash occurred on the road stretch between IFFCO Chowk and Mehrauli, close to Sikanderpur Metro station.
As per the complaint filed by his father, Arinjay Kumar Mishra, Abhishek was driving car number HR26BY/0494 when he allegedly failed to notice the crane stationed on the road and crashed into it. The crane had reportedly been parked there for surveillance camera installation work.
Family Alleges Negligence
The complainant accused those responsible for the roadwork of negligence and claimed the crane had been parked dangerously without any safety measures.
The complaint stated that the crane was left in “a dangerous position without any indicators or parking lights, cones, reflectors or any cautionary signage in place to alert approaching motorists”.
Victim Declared Dead At Hospital
The impact of the collision left Abhishek critically injured. With the assistance of police personnel, he was rushed to Narayana Hospital in DLF Phase-3, where doctors later declared him dead during treatment.
Abhishek worked as an engineer at Cognizant’s DLF Phase-3 office and lived nearby in rented accommodation.
Police Register Case Under BNS Sections
His father, a resident of Dhobaha village under Mahendrawada police station in Sitamarhi, alleged that a private agency carrying out GMDA camera installation work had failed to implement mandatory safety arrangements at the site.
Police said head constable Dinesh Kumar, who was on naka duty at MG Road, received information about the accident through the ERV system. A police team immediately reached the spot and shifted the injured engineer to hospital.
Based on the complaint and preliminary investigation, police registered a case at DLF-2 police station under sections 285 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, related to causing danger or obstruction on a public road and death due to negligence.
Police Investigating Role Of Crane Driver And Contractor
Officials said efforts are underway to identify the crane driver and the contractor involved in the surveillance camera installation work.
“According to the information available with us, the agency had taken the required permissions from police and carried out barricading and other arrangements at the site. The police are investigating the incident and will ascertain the exact circumstances,” an official said.
