A very important news is coming for those who drive and use clean fuel across the country. In view of the rapidly increasing trend of hydrogen and gas based clean fuels in India, the Central Government has made a huge and historic change in the rules of Legal Metrology. According to the new decision of the government, now the responsibility of verification and testing of hydrogen, LPG, LNG and CNG fuel dispensing units i.e. dispenser machines will also be handed over to private testing centers recognized by the government. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has officially amended the years-old ‘Legal Metrology (Government Recognized Testing Centres) Rules, 2013’ in this regard.

Scope of system extended for monitoring weights and measures

The main objective of this big decision of the Central Government is to make the monitoring system of weights and measures at all the fuel and gas stations of the country stronger and more transparent than before. Along with this, the government also wants to promote the use of clean fuels in the country on a large scale. After the implementation of this new amendment, the total number of devices to be verified and tested by Government Recognized Testing Centers (GATC) has now been directly increased from 18 to 23. Let us tell you that these special centers have the complete technical capability to closely examine and re-verify all types of measuring and weighing instruments used in the country.

New fee fixed for inspection of petrol, diesel and gas dispensers

To run this new system smoothly, the government has also set new rates of fees. According to the new rules, a fee of Rs 5,000 per nozzle has now been fixed for verification and purity checking of petrol and diesel dispensing units. On the other hand, for testing CNG, LPG, LNG and hydrogen dispensers which are considered to be the fuel of the future, this fee has been kept double i.e. Rs 10,000 per nozzle. If understood in common language, the nozzle is a device which is installed at the right end of the fuel filling pipe and through this, petrol, diesel or CNG gas is filled in your vehicles. Now, with its regular checking, consumers will be guaranteed to get complete fuel.

Clean energy and transparency will get a huge boost in the country

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, this new and revolutionary decision will make verification services available at fuel pumps across the country much faster, making the entire verification process more effective and transparent than before. Along with this, due to increase in customer confidence, the pace of adoption of clean fuels in the country will also increase significantly. The government clearly believes that the use of hydrogen and gas based fuels in the country is going to increase very rapidly in the coming times. In such a situation, it is very important to ensure correct measurement of all these fuel distributing units and prevent any kind of fraud with the general public.
