New Delhi: Fuel prises have been hiked for a third time in less than 10 days amid disruptions in the crude supply globally owing to West Asia conflict.
On Saturday, petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 91 paise and 87 paise per litre respectively. In Delhi, a litre of diesel will now cost Rs 92.49 while petrol is selling for Rs 99.51.
Petrol prices in four Metro cities- Delhi – Rs 99.51 (+0.87)
- Kolkata – Rs 110.64 (+0.94)
- Mumbai – Rs 108.49 (+0.90)
- Chennai – Rs 105.31 (+0.82)
- Delhi – Rs 92.49 (+0.91)
- Kolkata – Rs 97.02 (+0.95)
- Mumbai – Rs 95.02 (+0.94)
- Chennai – Rs 96.98 (+0.87)
The fuel prices vary from state to state depending on the value added tax (VAT) on them.
This is the third increase in rates since May 15. Prices were hiked by Rs 3 a litre on May 15, followed by a 90 paise increase on May 19.
CNG prices hiked by Re 1Meanwhile, CNG prices have also been hiked by Re 1 per kg in Delhi. With the latest revision, the price of CNG in Delhi now stands at Rs 81.09 per kg. The hike is expected to increase fuel expenses for auto-rickshaws, taxis, cab operators and private vehicle owners.
The revision in fuel prices is largely attributed to the West Asia conflict and the disruption in crude supply through Strait of Hormuz — a crucial waterway responsible for passage of around 20 per cent of global fuel. While the government initially said that the prices will not be increased, the prolonged conflict in Gulf — increasing the cost of crude — has forced it to pass on the cost to people.
