Kylian Mbappe has penned an emotional tribute to David Alaba after the Austrian defender confirmed that he will be leaving Real Madrid this summer. The French forward described Alaba as not just a teammate but also a close friend who played a key role in helping him adapt to life at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Mbappe recalls their strong connection
Following the confirmation of Alaba’s departure, Mbappe expressed his sorrow through a heartfelt message. With the Austrian international’s contract set to expire and not be renewed, his time at Real Madrid comes to an end after a successful spell that included several titles, notably the UEFA Champions League.
In his emotional message, Mbappe highlighted how much Alaba’s presence meant to him during their time together in Spain. “My brother, it’s such a difficult moment to close this chapter with you,” wrote the French superstar, emphasizing the depth of their bond.
From fierce opponents to trusted allies
Mbappe and Alaba’s relationship goes back to their days as rivals in European and international competitions. Reflecting on their journey, Mbappe noted how their connection evolved from being competitors on the pitch to forming one of his most cherished partnerships in football.
Mbappe continued, “You’re not only an incredible player but an even greater human being. You were once a tough rival, then became one of my best teammates here, and now I can proudly say you’re a friend that football has given me.”
Alaba’s challenging end to his Madrid chapter
The 33-year-old defender has faced a series of setbacks since joining Real Madrid on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in 2021. Although he quickly became a mainstay in the backline during his first season, recurring injuries over the following years limited his game time. This season alone, Alaba has featured in just 15 matches across all competitions and started only five of them.
What’s next for Alaba?
As Alaba approaches the next stage of his career, he is expected to evaluate his options once the World Cup concludes. Given his versatility and winning experience, several clubs from top leagues are likely to show interest.
Reports indicate that a move to Italy’s Serie A could be a realistic possibility, while offers from the United States’ Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia’s Pro League are also being considered as potential destinations for the Austrian star.
