Manchester United could complete summer deals for Mateus Fernandes and Ederson

Manchester United seem determined to move quickly in the transfer market as they plan to bring in three new midfielders this summer.

Casemiro has already confirmed his exit, with the Brazilian midfielder expected to join Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

Reports suggest that INEOS are eager to part ways with Manuel Ugarte, who has turned out to be one of the most disappointing signings in recent club history.

There are also suggestions that academy graduate Toby Collyer could leave if a suitable offer arrives, which further underlines the need for United to strengthen their midfield options.

The club’s plan reportedly involves signing a world-class replacement for the five-time Champions League winner, a versatile backup option, and a cost-effective squad addition.

Most sources indicate that the Red Devils are currently prioritising the signing of a replacement for the Uruguayan first, given the complications surrounding the Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali affairs before the transfer window officially opens.

Atalanta’s Ederson, Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand, and West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes are the three names currently being linked with the club.

INEOS are known to prefer Premier League-proven players, and Fernandes perfectly fits that profile. At just 21 years old, he represents an even more appealing long-term prospect.

However, journalist Sully has now reported that the pursuit of Ederson is independent of any potential move for Fernandes.

This means Manchester United could finalise both deals in the same window, indicating that INEOS are willing to invest more heavily than initially anticipated.

“Understand that any potential deal for (Mateus) Fernandes is independent of one for Éderson. This doesn’t mean that both transfers will happen, but it’s not a case of one or the other.

“Éderson update: MUFC have held fresh, positive talks with Atalanta, and the deal is progressing well.

“This isn’t just ‘agent talk,’ contrary to what some believe – United are in active discussions with Atalanta. Although not yet finalised, the base fee is expected to be around £34 million, with additional clauses.

“Éderson is likely to join as a squad option rather than a first-choice starter at this stage. Wilcox, Vivell, and the entire recruitment team have given their approval for the signing.

“The 26-year-old didn’t feature for Atalanta in their last match due to ongoing negotiations. He has informed his agent that his sole preference is to join Manchester United.”

Ederson’s overall cost could rise to around £45 million with add-ons, while West Ham are expected to demand between £60 million and £70 million for Fernandes.

Although there is no confirmation that United will secure both players, this update will undoubtedly please supporters. It reflects how determined the co-owners are to provide Michael Carrick with the necessary reinforcements to mount a genuine Premier League title challenge next season.
