×Marvel fans have another dark superhero story coming soon, and this time it arrives with a very different look and mood. Spider-Noir, led by Nicolas Cage, takes the Spider-Man universe into a gloomy 1930s setting filled with crime, mystery and old-school detective drama. Unlike the usual fast-paced superhero stories, this series focuses more on atmosphere, personal struggles and a city falling apart.
The upcoming show has already created curiosity online because of its noir style, black-and-white presentation option and Cage stepping into the lead role. While many viewers already know him from the animated Spider-Verse films, this live-action version tells a separate story set in an alternate universe within Marvel’s Spider-Man world.
Prime Video shared the final trailer on X with the caption, “In one week, B Reilly Investigations is open for business. This is the final trailer for ‘Spider-Noir,’ arriving May 27 on Prime in True-Hue Full Color and Authentic Black & White.”
One of the major talking points around the show is that viewers will be able to watch it in two formats — a classic black-and-white version and a full-colour version. The makers have designed the visual style to match old Hollywood noir detective films from the 1930s and 1940s.
Things begin to change when a strange case pulls him back into the dangerous underworld of the city. He is once again forced to wear the mask and confront crime, corruption and violence spreading through New York.
Unlike traditional Spider-Man stories, the series leans heavily into detective storytelling. Instead of bright superhero action, the show focuses more on mystery, emotional conflict and street-level crime.
Speaking about his approach to the character, Cage previously said, “For me, this character was 70 percent Bogart, and 30 percent Bugs Bunny. I was basically Mel Blanc doing Bogart, with that sarcastic sense of humor. But it’s a hundred percent me.”
Reports around the series also mention that Cage looked at classic Humphrey Bogart performances while shaping the character’s style and behaviour.
The project is directed by Harry Bradbeer, while Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot serve as co-showrunners. The series is also backed by producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal, the same team associated with the successful Spider-Verse animated franchise.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the eight-episode series is expected to mix crime drama, noir storytelling and superhero action in a way that feels different from most recent Marvel projects.
