Manchester United have informed Manuel Ugarte and his representatives that he is free to leave Old Trafford during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Premier League giants are gearing up for the next transfer window and are reportedly close to completing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
Following Casemiro’s departure, the Red Devils are keen to reinforce their midfield options before the next campaign. The club intends to bring in two or three new signings in that area to strengthen their squad depth.
Ugarte, however, does not feature in Manchester United’s future plans, and the management has made their stance clear to the 25-year-old’s camp.
“Regarding Manuel Ugarte, Manchester United have been very straightforward with the player’s representatives,” Romano stated on his YouTube channel earlier this evening.
“They want Ugarte to leave. What I can confirm is that Manchester United have been very clear—they want to make room in the squad.”
The Uruguayan midfielder joined United from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024 but has struggled to make a consistent impact since his arrival.
After playing 45 matches in his debut season, Ugarte has featured in only 24 games so far this term and has not appeared since the 2-1 defeat against Leeds United at Old Trafford last month, despite being fully fit.
Reports suggest that co-owner Jim Ratcliffe believes Ugarte should be sold, having been unimpressed by his performance when watching from the directors’ box during that match.
The £50.5 million spent to sign him has not yielded the expected returns, and manager Michael Carrick will be eager to ensure that upcoming transfer decisions are more successful.
United are aiming to assemble a squad capable of competing with Arsenal and other top clubs for the Premier League title next season, as well as performing strongly in their return to the Champions League.
Offloading Ugarte to generate funds appears to be a logical move, and he is not the only player likely to be sold this summer, with Carrick planning a partial overhaul of the squad.
