Mohamed Salah’s future remains uncertain as he prepares to bid farewell to Liverpool, with one of the biggest clubs in world football reportedly leading the race to sign him.
The Egyptian star’s spell at Liverpool is drawing to a close, and his next destination could well be among the sport’s global heavyweights.
After nine memorable years at Anfield, Salah has confirmed his decision to leave the Reds and embark on a new chapter as he nears the twilight years of his playing career.
Now 33, Salah has had a reduced role under the management of Arne Slot this season. However, one European powerhouse appears convinced that the veteran attacker can still deliver at the highest level.
According to a report from Egyptian outlet Mwatan News, Salah is eager to continue playing in Europe and competing at the top level, which has opened the door for Real Madrid.
The report claims that the Spanish giants are currently ‘leading the way’ in the pursuit of Salah’s signature, though several obstacles could complicate any potential deal.
Salah, who currently ranks at No. 5 on FourFourTwo’s list of the greatest Premier League players of all time, has long been recognised as one of the most gifted forwards of his generation.
However, Real Madrid’s transfer strategy rarely includes offering a lucrative contract to players approaching the latter stages of their careers, which could pose a challenge to any agreement.
The LaLiga champions also boast an abundance of attacking talent in their squad. With Kylian Mbappe—football’s second-most expensive player ever—already at the Bernabéu, there may be reservations about adding another global superstar to the mix.
The same report mentions that Roma, Juventus, and Inter Milan have also shown interest in Salah, though a return to Serie A is considered unlikely. The forward has also been linked with Turkish side Fenerbahce in recent weeks.
If a move to Real Madrid does not materialise, Salah will have other options that offer very different prospects.
Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad are reportedly prepared to offer Salah a “leading role” along with a substantial financial package, making them an attractive option from a monetary standpoint.
Meanwhile, from a commercial perspective, MLS side Inter Miami are also believed to be interested. A move to the United States would provide Salah with immense global exposure, though it remains uncertain whether he would be willing to make such a trade-off at this stage of his career.
For many Liverpool supporters, a move to Real Madrid would be a painful sight. The Spanish giants have been the team to deny the Reds on numerous occasions in their pursuit of European glory in recent history. Moreover, Real Madrid’s acquisition of Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer left fans on Merseyside feeling a deep sense of betrayal, adding another emotional layer to the speculation surrounding Salah’s future.
