Foreign tourist arrivals in Goa are declining as travellers increasingly prefer cheaper, cleaner, and more accessible destinations like Vietnam and Sri Lanka, while domestic tourism continues to boom across the coastal state.

Goa’s famous beaches continue attracting huge crowds throughout the year. However, most visitors today are domestic tourists rather than the foreign backpackers once associated with the state.

Expensive flights, higher hotel prices, and increasing travel costs have made Goa less attractive for international tourists. Many travellers are now choosing more affordable destinations across Asia instead.

Countries like Vietnam and Sri Lanka are drawing travellers with cheaper packages and easier visa processes. Their growing tourism infrastructure is also making them popular alternatives to Goa.

Longer visa procedures and reduced direct international flight options have created inconvenience for overseas visitors. The loss of direct routes has especially impacted tourists from Europe and the UK.

While beaches are being maintained more carefully, garbage on roads and public spaces remains a concern. Cleanliness has become a major deciding factor for many international travellers.

High taxi fares and limited app-based transport services continue to frustrate tourists in Goa. Visitors often find travelling around the state expensive and inconvenient compared to other destinations.

Tourism authorities are now promoting Goa aggressively in newer international markets. With rising competition across Asia, the state is trying to reposition itself as a global beach destination once again.
