A very heartbreaking news is coming out from China. A massive explosion has occurred in a coal mine in Shaanxi province located in the central area here, in which at least 82 workers have died. According to China’s official news agency ‘Xinhua’, this gas blast occurred on Friday in Qianyuan County, about 520 kilometers south-west of Beijing. After this horrific accident, there is mourning in the entire area and rescue teams are continuously engaged in relief work.
247 workers were trapped inside the mine, panic created after alert
This tragic accident happened late on Friday night when an alert was issued about carbon monoxide gas leaking from inside the mine. After receiving the warning, before people could understand anything, there was a massive explosion inside the mine. It is being told that at the time of the blast, a total of 247 laborers were working in the underground mine. According to the latest update, rescue operations are still being conducted to bring out many workers safely.
This is considered to be the biggest and most deadly disaster that has occurred in China’s coal mines in the last decade i.e. 10 years. Although China claims that it has made a lot of improvements in the safety of mines in recent years, despite this, a large number of workers are dying in frequent accidents there. Earlier in February 2023, there was a sudden landslide in an opencast mine in Xinjing, Inner Mongolia, in which 53 miners lost their lives.
President Xi Jinping gave strict orders, said – will not spare the culprits
After this major accident, Chinese President Xi Jinping has come into action. He has ordered rescue teams to make “every possible effort” to find the people missing in the mine. The President clearly said that the situation after the accident must be handled very “properly.” Along with this, he warned that those who are responsible for this terrible negligence and accident will not be spared at any cost and their accountability will be fixed.
While giving advice to all the departments of the country, Xi Jinping said that all the sectors and government departments should learn a tough lesson from this major accident. He said that it is very important to be alert all the time regarding security at the workplace. For this, a thorough investigation should be done and all types of dangers and hidden shortcomings should be corrected in time, so that such serious accidents can be strictly prevented from happening in future.
There was an outcry in Shaanxi province, rain and flood increased the problems.
The Chinese President also mentioned that currently the rainy season is going on in the country, hence effective steps should be taken to prevent floods. Actually, China is also facing the brunt of nature these days. Last week itself, seven people died due to heavy rains in Hunan’s Shimen County and more than 1 lakh people were affected by floods, while 14 people are still missing.
Meanwhile, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang also echoed the President and said that no stone should be left unturned to find the missing miners. He demanded that the investigation into the real causes of the accident be completed “as soon as possible”.
Prime Minister Li Qiang also appealed to the Security Office of the State Council to remind local officials of their responsibilities, so that such accidents can be prevented with full determination. According to government media, currently China’s Vice Prime Minister Zhang Guoqing and many senior local officials are present at Ground Zero i.e. the accident site and are in charge of the relief operations. Let us tell you that Shaanxi is the largest coal producing province of China, where last month too there was an accident in a mine in Luliang and four miners died.
