Discussions are reported to have already taken place, and FC Bayern Munich could be set to earn a significant transfer fee from the potential sale of one of their players being lined up for a move.
Min-Jae Kim may depart from FC Bayern Munich during the upcoming summer transfer window. Could the defender be on his way back to Turkey?
According to reports from Kicker, Fenerbahce Istanbul has shown renewed interest in the 29-year-old centre-back and intends to pursue his signing in the next window.
Sources suggest that preliminary discussions have been held, with the German champions valuing the South Korean defender at approximately €25 million.
Kim previously represented Fenerbahce during the 2021/22 season, where his impressive performances earned him a €19 million transfer to SSC Napoli. However, a return to the Turkish league would likely require the player to agree to a significant salary reduction.
Bayern Munich are not expected to obstruct a move, as Kim ranked third in the centre-back hierarchy last season behind Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah. Josip Stanisic and Hiroki Ito also remain part of the squad, although Ito could exit for around €20 million following two injury-plagued campaigns.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Min-Jae Kim has recently expressed that he feels comfortable and settled at FC Bayern Munich.
Speaking to the Korean outlet Footballist, Kim said, “I used to believe that playing regularly was the only way forward, but now I’m content with my role as a challenger. I had never experienced such a long period without game time, so it was difficult to adjust initially. Over time, however, I’ve come to see the positive side of it.”
Although Kim remains under contract with Bayern until 2028, he has been linked with potential moves during both the previous summer and winter transfer windows. At that time, reports indicated that he preferred to wait until summer to reassess his position. However, with Tah and Upamecano still serving as the first-choice central defenders, his situation has not improved. Bayern’s stance is unchanged — should an appropriate offer arrive, the club is open to letting him go at the end of the season.
Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan, along with top Turkish sides such as Galatasaray and Besiktas, are said to be keeping a close watch on Kim’s situation. Reports also suggest that Juventus have already initiated contact with the South Korean international.
