A major diplomatic stir has emerged amidst the long-running severe tension and horrors of war in the Middle East. The biggest question arising in everyone’s mind is ‘When will the Iran-America war end?’ Amidst this, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir suddenly reached Iran’s capital Tehran on Friday, 22 May 2026. According to international strategists, this visit of Field Marshal Munir is taking place at a very sensitive time and its only main purpose is to pave the way for a final agreement between America and Iran to calm the ongoing war in the Middle East forever.

A statement issued by the Official Headquarters of the Pakistani Army (ISPR) has confirmed that Field Marshal Munir’s visit to Tehran is a very important part of the long-running international mediation efforts behind the scenes. After landing at Tehran International Airport, Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni welcomed the Pakistani Army Chief very warmly. The seriousness of this diplomatic mission can be gauged from the fact that on this occasion, Pakistan’s Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi was already present at the airport, who has been camping in Iran for the last few days.

Second secret visit in a month: Signs of progress in talks with Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi

According to defense sources in the neighboring country, this is the second visit of Field Marshal Asim Munir to Tehran in less than a month. This sudden visit has been called at a time when reports of some positive and major progress have emerged in the initial talks held by Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi with the Iranian leadership. Naqvi has been on a visit to Iran since Wednesday and has held several rounds of secret meetings with the top political and military leadership there, including two special meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Iran’s official news channel ‘Press TV’ also highlighted this news and said that Field Marshal Munir has arrived in Tehran on Friday to finalize the agenda of the ongoing talks between Iran and Washington with the aim of converting the ceasefire into a permanent peace agreement. During his visit, the Pakistani Army Chief will meet several other important dignitaries and military commanders of Iran, where apart from Iran-US talks, regional peace, security and other strategic matters of mutual interest will be discussed.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s big claim: Pakistan’s ‘shuttle diplomacy’ exposed

Initially there was suspense regarding this entire high-profile visit. In fact, when Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi was asked in a recent press conference about the visit of this high-level delegation to Iran, he had said in a very measured manner that he could neither completely deny the news of this diplomatic visit nor officially confirm it.

But this suspense was lifted when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a big statement in Washington on Thursday. Rubio had claimed in front of the whole world that he was confident that Pakistani military representatives would visit Tehran today and talk to the leadership there. This statement of the US Secretary of State proved to be absolutely accurate, because Pakistan’s Home Minister Naqvi was already present in Tehran and preparing the ground and the Army Chief also reached there on Friday. Pakistan is currently resorting to ‘shuttle diplomacy’ (indirect mediation talks) to prevent a direct war between the two countries.

Know how the peace initiative started: The first direct talk was held in Islamabad.

When the threat of a third world war was looming over the entire world after weeks of fierce missile and air attacks between Iran and the US-Israel alliance, Pakistan had intervened and brokered a temporary ceasefire on April 8. Immediately after this successful ceasefire, on April 11 and 12, for the first time in years, face-to-face direct talks were held between the top diplomats of America and Iran in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. However, due to the stubborn stance of both the countries, that first round of discussions ended without any major success.

Following this failure, US President Donald Trump suddenly canceled plans for a second round of talks in Islamabad, in which US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner himself were scheduled to participate. However, despite the talks being cancelled, President Trump extended the ceasefire indefinitely, accepting the personal request and diplomatic pressure of Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Now Pakistan is using all its strength to convert this ceasefire into a concrete agreement, so that the world can be rescued from this great crisis.
