Petrol Diesel Price Hike: Saturday morning once again brought a new message of inflation for the countrymen. Now to fill the car’s tank, you will have to loosen your pockets a little more.
The country’s oil companies have once again increased the prices of petrol and diesel, which is the third major increase in the last ten days. On Saturday, the price of petrol increased by 87 paise per liter and diesel by 91 paise per liter across India.
The increasing tension in West Asia spoiled the budget
The mathematics behind this latest increase in fuel prices is directly linked to global geopolitical turmoil. Due to the ongoing conflict and tension in West Asia, the supply of crude oil in the international market has been affected, due to which there is heavy pressure on prices. On Saturday, the price of petrol increased by 87 paise per liter and diesel by 91 paise per liter across India.
The thing to note is that this is the third major shock of this month. Earlier on May 16, oil companies had made a big increase of about Rs 3, after which on May 19 also the prices increased by 90 paise. Overall, within the last 10 days, there has been an additional burden of about Rs 5 per liter on your pocket.
New prices of petrol and diesel from Delhi to Mumbai
After this increase, the prices of petrol and diesel in the metropolitan cities of the country have now reached a new high. In the country’s capital Delhi, the price of petrol has increased from Rs 98.64 to Rs 99.51 per liter, while diesel has increased from Rs 91.58 to Rs 92.49. In Kolkata, prices have already crossed the 100 mark, where petrol is now being sold at Rs 110.57 and diesel at Rs 96.04 per litre.
In metropolitan Mumbai, the price of petrol has reached Rs 107.56 and diesel Rs 94.05, while in Chennai petrol is touching the level of Rs 104.54 and diesel Rs 96.16 per litre. Even in cities like Noida and Gurugram, prices remain around Delhi, making it difficult for working people who travel daily to manage their budget.
Government gave big assurance of adequate oil supply
Amidst this continuous increase in prices, there were many rumors on social media regarding shortage and shortage of fuel. However, the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has put an end to these rumors and assured the countrymen that India has adequate reserves of petrol and diesel.
| City | Petrol (₹/litre) | increase | Diesel (₹/Litre) | increase |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delhi | 99.51 | +0.87 | 92.49 | +0.91 |
| Kolkata | 110.64 | +0.87 | 97.02 | +0.91 |
| Mumbai | 108.49 | +0.87 | 95.02 | +0.91 |
| Chennai | 105.31 | +0.87 | 96.98 | +0.91 |
| Gurugram | 100.38 | +0.87 | 92.92 | +0.91 |
| Noida | 98.78 | +0.87 | 93.12 | +0.91 |
The ministry has issued an official statement appealing to people not to make panic purchases. The government says there may be temporary pressure due to increased demand at some selected petrol pumps, which oil companies are resolving through continuous monitoring and better distribution. The Ministry expects responsible consumption and cooperation from citizens so that the supply chain continues to run smoothly during these high demand times.
Fuel prices do not only affect the drivers, but it affects every section of the society. Economic experts have warned that due to the continuous increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, the cost of transportation and logistics will increase significantly in the coming days.
