A sudden major power crisis in Gurugram, Haryana on Friday night increased the troubles of thousands of people. Amidst the scorching heat, the power supply to many areas of the city was completely affected due to the blowing of the main transformer of the 220 KVA power house located in Sector-72. The impact of this technical glitch was not limited to just homes and offices, but Rapid Metro service was also disrupted. Due to sudden power failure at night, people were seen suffering from heat and humidity. Water supply also started getting affected in many areas, while passengers had to face a lot of problems due to stoppage of metro service.

One transformer defective, seven power plants closed

According to the information, the main transformer installed in the 220 KVA power house of Sector-72 suddenly got damaged. Due to this, seven power houses were affected simultaneously. The affected power houses include Sector-15, Sector-38, Sector-44, Sector-46, Sector-52, Sector-56 and Maruti 66 KVA power houses. Due to this, power supply came to a standstill in a large part from Sector-38 to Sector-57. Apart from this, people of Sector-15 Part-1, Sector-15 Part-2 and Sector-18 also had to face power cut for a long time.

Rapid metro service also affected

The impact of the power crisis was also visible on the Rapid Metro service of Gurugram. Metro operations were disrupted for about an hour, due to which thousands of passengers traveling daily had to face problems. Crowds of passengers gathered at many metro stations. People had to resort to cabs, autos and private vehicles. This situation became more difficult for people returning from office.

People's problems increased in summer

At present, the period of intense heat and humidity continues in Gurugram. In such a situation, people had to face a lot of trouble due to lack of electricity for hours. Coolers and ACs stopped working in homes, while the functioning of many offices and shops was also affected. Local residents kept trying to contact the electricity department to get information about the situation. People also expressed their displeasure over the power cut on social media.

Restoration expected by late night

According to electricity department officials, the technical team is present on the spot and the work to repair the faulty transformer is going on at a fast pace. Officials say that it may take about 8 to 10 hours to complete the repair work. The department has expressed hope that power supply will be gradually restored in the affected areas by late night.

After this incident, questions have also started being raised regarding the electricity system and infrastructure of Gurugram. Amidst the rapidly increasing population and increasing electricity load, experts have been saying for a long time the need to upgrade the power system. Local people say that problems like transformer overload and power cuts come up every summer, but a permanent solution has not been seen yet.
