England manager Thomas Tuchel has unveiled his 26-player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Jude Bellingham and Noni Madueke earning their spots, while Phil Foden and Cole Palmer have been left out. Captain Harry Kane will lead the Three Lions as they aim to end a six-decade wait for an international title, supported in attack by Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, and Marcus Rashford.
The Three Lions are preparing to make their mark in North America, with Tuchel facing several tough decisions to finalise his selection. From an initial list of 55 names, the final squad has been trimmed down to a group stacked with experience and silverware-winning pedigree.
Every area of the field demanded difficult calls, with few guaranteed starters in the team. Those chosen are now tasked with delivering on the hopes of England’s passionate fanbase as they aim to roar on North American soil.

Who made the cut?
Much of the pre-selection debate centred on who would occupy the creative positions, with England blessed with exceptional midfield talent. Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham looks set to take the No.10 role, while Premier League champion Eberechi Eze of Arsenal and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers offer alternative attacking options.
Skipper Harry Kane will spearhead the attack, with Toney earning a timely recall after impressing in the Saudi Pro League. Ollie Watkins, who played a key role in the Euro 2024 semi-final win over the Netherlands, will look to replicate his form on the global stage.
Veteran Jordan Henderson brings leadership and experience, while Kobbie Mainoo’s excellent resurgence under Michael Carrick at Manchester United secures his late inclusion. Noni Madueke’s selection is unexpected given his limited starts at Arsenal, but he offers flair and energy on the flanks alongside Rashford and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, both capable of operating centrally as well.
In defence, John Stones makes the squad despite an injury-hit season and his impending free agency at Manchester City. Chelsea’s Reece James is Tuchel’s preferred choice at right-back, with Nico O’Reilly and Djed Spence both vying for opportunities on the opposite flank.
Who missed out?
Phil Foden’s inconsistent form for Manchester City has cost him a place, while Chelsea’s Cole Palmer—England’s Men’s Player of the Year in 2024—also misses out after enduring a run of 14 games without a goal for club and country.
Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, who netted a career-best 17 goals this season, has again been overlooked. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Everton’s James Garner have fallen down the pecking order in midfield, while Jarrod Bowen’s efforts for West Ham were not enough to secure selection.
Veterans Danny Welbeck (Brighton) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds) have also been omitted despite combining for 27 Premier League goals in 2025-26. Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes may be regretting not choosing to represent Scotland when he had the opportunity.
In defence, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire—an ever-present in previous tournaments—has expressed disappointment over his exclusion. Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Newcastle’s Lewis Hall were also left out, with Arsenal’s Ben White sidelined by injury at an unfortunate time.
England’s 2026 World Cup fixtures
England will play two warm-up matches before the tournament to adapt to conditions in the United States and allow Tuchel to fine-tune his tactics. They face New Zealand on June 6 and Costa Rica on June 10, with opportunities for squad rotation to build match sharpness.
Their World Cup campaign begins against Croatia on June 17 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Next, they meet Ghana at Gillette Stadium—home of the New England Patriots—on June 23, before concluding their Group L fixtures against Panama at MetLife Stadium on June 27, the venue for the tournament final.
