Life does not always go as planned and that’s a brutal reality that often becomes hard to accept. But the real winner is the one who does not let challenges stop them from achieving their dreams. With a courageous heart and an unwavering determination, they continue moving forward, navigating through the obstacles like a true warrior. And more often than not, the Universe eventually rewards their never-give-up mindset. Such is the story of Kolkata-based man Ashu, whose Roadies rejection made his life difficult, but never shattered his spirit.
Setbacks, sacrifice and survival
As per a report by the Official Humans of Bombay, Ashu grew up in a small hut in a slum. His father was an army veteran who later took up the job of a security guard at a bank. Ashu’s love for sports led him to join the gym and sculpt his physique during his college years at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI).
Over the years, as Ashu built his muscular and beefed-up frame by toiling hard at the gym, he gained confidence and decided to try his luck in the hit Indian reality television series Roadies, which was quite the buzz back then. Unfortunately, he was rejected in the first few rounds during the audition process, a setback that left him deeply disheartened. Giving up his Roadies dream, Ashu focused on studies again, spending hours in the library to clear the railway examination.
Although Ashu cracked the exam and secured a job from Jabalpur and Chennai, he was forced to give up the offer after his father suffered a severe paralysis attack and was bedridden. As a result, Ashu had to stay back and look after his ailing dad. At that time, he received another job offer from the metro’s track maintenance department and he took up that opportunity. The new job was, however, far from easy.
Shattered dream, a family crisis and an inspiring comeback
Every day, Ashu had to stand under the scorching summer sun, lifting heavy equipment and picking up stones from the tracks. He admitted that his body screamed from pain and sore aches, sometimes prompting him to cry from the frustration of having to let go of his dream of being on the stage. But despite the strenuous work, he kept going on with only one motive: he had to earn a living for his family.
Ashu’s life changed 3 years later when he got married. Things slowly started falling into place as his wife stood beside him like a pillar of support, helping him both emotionally and financially. She even encouraged Ashu to venture into bodybuilding. Following her advice, Ashu secured the 4th place at a bodybuilding championship, and for the first time in years, he felt he was doing something he actually loves. At present, Ashu continues to lift stones at the tracks but also makes sure to lift weights at the gym, with hopes of representing India in bodybuilding.
