
Hyderabad, 22 May. The scorching heat continues to wreak havoc in Telangana, considered the gateway to South India. In this sequence, 22 people died due to heat stroke in different districts of the state on Thursday itself.
The state health department has come into alert mode. Health officials have advised people not to go out in the afternoon, drink plenty of water and avoid dehydration as temperatures remain dangerously high across the state.
The situation was particularly worrying in the Warangal region, where nine people died due to heatstroke- illnesses in a single day. In Mahabubabad district, Kesa Lachamma (89) of Kotha Irsulapuram village in Bayaram mandal, woman farmer Gugulothu Amrutha (54) of Hanuman Nagar Thanda in Nellikudur mandal and Gade Komuramma (95) of Kalwala village in Kesamudram mandal died.
Other deaths reported from the Warangal region include Gannoj Anil (25) from Keshavpur village in Elkathurthi mandal of Hanamkonda district, Dudapaka Pochayya (60) from Challagarige village in Chityala mandal of Bhupalpally district, Madari Lakshmi (85) from Eturunagaram in Mulugu district, an unidentified woman, about 55, from Pothugal village in Mogullapally mandal near Mulugu bus stand area. Nampally Sakkamma (58), an agricultural laborer, and Yakub Pasha (45) from Bagirthipeta village in Regonda mandal.
In other districts, those who died of heatstroke include intermediate student Bommidi Venkatesh (17) from Siripuram in Nadigudem mandal of Suryapet district, Cherlapalli Somayya (65), a porter at the grain procurement center in Thungathurthi, and Beedimadala Ramulu (70) from Cheematimamidi village in Munugode mandal of Nalgonda district.
Similarly, additional deaths were reported from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Mancherial, Jogulamba Gadwal, Medak, Jagtial, Ramagundam, Karimnagar and Khammam districts. Most of the victims were elderly, labourers, farmers or people who spent long periods outside in high temperatures during the day.
