Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly planning a significant squad enhancement during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The North London club, currently leading the Premier League title race by five points ahead of Manchester City following their emphatic 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, is said to be exploring ways to further strengthen the team.
Despite their impressive form, Arteta has consistently emphasized his desire to keep evolving the squad, reiterating that no player is guaranteed a permanent place if their performance levels decline.
With four competitions still in contention this season, the importance of squad rotation and depth at the Emirates Stadium has become increasingly evident.
In attack, Viktor Gyokeres has borne much of the responsibility, especially while Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have only recently returned from injuries.
However, recent reports suggest that attention has now turned to the goalkeeping position, where David Raya’s starting spot could be under scrutiny. According to Italian sources, Arsenal are monitoring Atalanta shot-stopper Marco Carnesecchi as a potential target.
Reports from Corriere dello Sport indicate that both Arsenal and Manchester United have been following Carnesecchi’s performances closely, impressed by his consistency across the Serie A season.
The 25-year-old Italian has recorded 10 clean sheets in 26 top-flight appearances so far, with Juventus also believed to be interested in securing his services this summer. His strong statistics — 83 saves and just 22 goals conceded — put him among the league’s top goalkeepers for clean sheets in 2026, with no rival surpassing his tally in that category.
While Arsenal currently have Kepa Arrizabalaga and Tommy Setford as their backup options behind Raya, Arteta is reportedly open to introducing further competition within the goalkeeping ranks.
Kepa remains contracted to Arsenal until 2028, while Raya recently agreed to a new deal keeping him at the club through the same year, with an option for an additional season. Nonetheless, the possibility of adding Carnesecchi suggests Arteta’s continued pursuit of excellence and depth across every position.
