Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is reportedly planning to request a further addition to his coaching staff this summer, aiming to tackle ongoing concerns among the squad following a season marred by injuries. The Catalan club had implemented a change in their fitness department last year, which has not yielded the desired results.

During the summer of 2024, Barcelona underwent a complete overhaul of their fitness and physiotherapy departments, appointing Julio Tous and Raul Martinez. The move initially proved highly effective, as the team saw a significant improvement in injury management and overall fitness levels. However, last summer, club advisor Alejandro Echevarria decided to grant full control of the fitness operations to Tous.

This decision has not been well received within the squad. Over the current campaign, several key players, including Raphinha, Pedri, Joan Garcia, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, and Lamine Yamal, have all struggled with fitness issues. Reports from March indicated that the Barcelona players were dissatisfied with Tous’s methods and had urged Flick to reduce his influence.

According to Catalunya Radio’s Barca Reservat, Flick is eager to address these concerns constructively. While Tous is not expected to be dismissed, the German coach intends to bring in an additional fitness expert to oversee the department. Flick is believed to be considering some of his former colleagues from the German national team as potential candidates, aiming to help his players regain their physical sharpness and consistency.

Alongside these prospective changes in the fitness department, there are also uncertainties surrounding other members of Flick’s coaching team. Thiago Alcantara has yet to confirm whether he will continue in his staff role next season, while match analyst Dr. Stephan Nopp has already informed the club of his decision to depart this summer for personal reasons. Consequently, Flick appears set to make several adjustments not only to his squad but also to his backroom structure.
