A murder convict in Ahmedabad, Gujarat was arrested by the police 12 years after coming out of jail on parole. Instead of returning to jail, the accused continued hiding by changing his name and location. During this period, he also played small roles in Bollywood films, web series and Gujarati dramas. Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested 53-year-old Hemant Modi near a metro station on Wednesday. According to the police, he was absconding for a long time and was living under a different name to hide his identity. During this time, he was also working in films with actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Ranveer Singh.

According to the police, a case of murder and rioting was registered against Hemant Modi in Ahmedabad in 2005. There was a fight between two parties over a dispute regarding illegal stairs in Parshvanath area. It is alleged that Hemant Modi, his brother and others had attacked Ajay Patel and his friend Narendra Kamble. Narendra Kamble was killed in this clash. Later in August 2008, the court sentenced all the culprits including Hemant Modi to life imprisonment.

Came out on parole, did not return to jail again

Police said that Hemant Modi, who was serving his sentence in Mehsana District Jail, was given parole for 30 days by the Gujarat High Court in 2014, but after the expiry of the stipulated time, he did not return to the jail. After this, in July 2014 the court declared him absconding. He changed locations several times to avoid arrest. First he lived in Patan district of Gujarat and later started living in Ahmedabad under the name ‘Twinkle Dave’.

Kept working in Bollywood films

According to the police, Hemant Modi continued working in a private company in Ahmedabad till 2017. After this he moved to Mumbai, where he started working as a supporting actor in films and web series. Investigation revealed that apart from Hindi and Gujarati films, he also worked in plays.

According to the police, he was seen in the film Thugs of Hindostan with Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan. Apart from this, she also worked with Ranveer Singh in Jayeshbhai Jordaar. Police have arrested the accused and now he will be sent to Mehsana District Jail, where he will complete the rest of his sentence.
