Rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz have pushed global crude oil prices sharply higher, with international oil prices reportedly climbing from nearly USD 70 to above USD 100 per barrel. The increase has already impacted fuel prices in India, with petrol and diesel becoming costlier in recent days.
Amid this pressure, Indian oil marketing companies released updated LPG cylinder prices on May 20. While transport fuel prices have seen multiple hikes recently, domestic LPG consumers have received temporary relief as household cylinder prices remain unchanged for now.
Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices Remain UnchangedDespite rising fuel costs, oil companies have not revised the prices of domestic 14.2 kg LPG cylinders.
According to reports:
- The last major change in domestic LPG prices occurred in March
- At that time, rates were increased by around ₹60 per cylinder
- Since then, prices have remained stable across major cities
Currently:
- New Delhi domestic LPG cylinder price stands at ₹913.00
- Mumbai domestic LPG cylinder costs ₹912.50
This stability has provided some relief to households despite broader inflationary pressure from rising fuel costs.
Why LPG Prices Differ Across CitiesLPG cylinder prices vary from city to city due to factors such as:
- Local taxes
- Transportation expenses
- State-level levies
- Distribution costs
As a result, consumers in different parts of India pay different rates for the same LPG cylinder category.

Commercial LPG Prices Continue to Remain Very HighWhile household LPG consumers have received temporary relief, businesses using commercial LPG cylinders continue facing major cost pressure.
Commercial 19 kg LPG cylinder prices have risen sharply over the past few months, reportedly increasing nearly 47 percent since March.
The recent surge has significantly impacted:
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Street food vendors
- Cafes
- Catering businesses
According to reports:
- Commercial LPG in Delhi currently costs ₹3,071.50

Rising Crude Oil Prices Impacting Indian Fuel MarketExperts believe geopolitical tensions in West Asia and disruptions around key global shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz are pushing energy prices upward worldwide.
India imports a large portion of its crude oil requirements, making domestic fuel prices highly sensitive to:
- Global crude prices
- Currency exchange rates
- Shipping costs
- International geopolitical developments
The recent rise in petrol and diesel prices is already adding pressure on transportation and logistics costs across sectors.
Relief for Household Consumers May Be TemporaryAlthough domestic LPG prices remain unchanged currently, market experts believe future revisions may depend on:
- International crude oil trends
- Government subsidy decisions
- Currency fluctuations
- Oil marketing company losses
Consumers are therefore closely monitoring whether oil companies continue holding domestic LPG rates steady in the coming weeks.
Consumers Advised to Book Through Official ChannelsLPG users are also advised to:
- Book cylinders through official apps or distributors
- Avoid fraudulent booking links
- Verify delivery details carefully
- Monitor subsidy updates where applicable
As fuel markets remain volatile globally, energy prices are expected to remain an important issue for both households and businesses across India.
