Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Italy was not just about meetings and diplomatic talks. Along with policy discussions and official engagements, the Indian Prime Minister also used the occasion to showcase different parts of India’s culture through a carefully chosen set of gifts.

From traditional textiles and handcrafted art to Indian classical music and millet-based snacks, every gift reflected a different side of India’s heritage and regional identity. The thoughtful choices quickly caught attention online, especially amid the continued buzz around the “Melodi” friendship between Modi and Giorgia Meloni.

PM Modi Gifted A Special Silk Stole From Manipur For Giorgia Meloni

For Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, PM Modi selected a Shirui Lily silk stole from Manipur. The stole drew inspiration from the rare Shirui Lily flower, which blooms only in the Ukhrul district of the northeastern state.

Known for its soft texture and detailed weaving, the stole highlighted the rich handloom traditions of Manipur while also bringing attention to the region’s biodiversity and local craftsmanship.

The gift also carried a subtle cultural link between India and Italy. The lily flower has long held significance in Italian art and culture, often symbolising elegance and purity. By choosing the stole, the gesture connected both countries through a shared appreciation for heritage, beauty, and traditional art forms.

Sergio Mattarella Receives Marble Inlay Artwork And Classical Music

Italian President Sergio Mattarella was gifted a marble inlay work box along with CDs featuring music by legendary Indian classical singers Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and M. S. Subbulakshmi.

The marble inlay artwork reflected the same intricate craftsmanship seen in monuments like the Taj Mahal and showcased India’s long history of detailed stonework.

Adding classical music to the gift made it more personal and cultural, offering a glimpse into India’s artistic legacy beyond politics and diplomacy. Millet bars highlighted India’s focus on sustainable food.

PM Modi also presented millet bars to QU Dongyu, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization.

The choice reflected India’s increasing focus on healthy and sustainable food habits. Millets have been part of India’s farming culture for generations, especially in regions of Maharashtra like Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Marathwada.

The gift also aligned with India’s efforts to promote millets globally as climate-friendly grains that are both nutritious and environmentally sustainable.
