Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday visited the newly developed terminal at Halwara Airport along with Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, describing the project as an important step toward improving air connectivity in central Punjab.
During the visit, Mann said the upgraded airport infrastructure is expected to benefit residents of Ludhiana, Moga, Ferozepur, Barnala and nearby districts, while also improving travel convenience for international passengers arriving in the region. He interacted with supporters and local residents who gathered at the airport during the event.
The chief minister stated that the Punjab government has been in touch with the Centre regarding a proposal to name the airport after freedom fighter Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha. The proposal, according to the state government, is aimed at honouring the legacy of the revolutionary figure associated with Punjab’s freedom movement.
Mann also spoke about efforts to encourage youth participation in the aviation sector. He said aviation clubs and training programmes are being promoted to help students from ordinary backgrounds explore careers as pilots and aviation professionals.
The Halwara airport project has been positioned by the state government as part of broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve regional connectivity in Punjab. Officials believe the upgraded terminal could help reduce travel pressure on other airports in the state and support economic activity in surrounding districts.
The visit comes amid continued focus by the Punjab government on transport infrastructure, public services and regional development initiatives across the state.
