The UK will be baking in scorching conditions this bank holiday weekend with soaring highs of 30C expected. The Met Office has said the UK will see an "exceptional spell of warmth for May", with temperatures forecast to creep up each day for the remainder of the week before the warmest weather of the year so far settles in.

Any temperature above 29.4C will be the highest May temperature recorded in the UK since 2012, whilst the all-time May record stands at 32.°C. The warmest day of the year so far was on April 8, which saw a high of 26.6C in Kew Gardens, London. WXCHARTS weather maps have turned a scorching red which shows that a whopping 28 counties across the country will see the mercury hit 27C or above on bank holiday Monday (May 25).

Southeast England will likely experience the highest temperatures, according to the Met Office.

Weather maps for Monday show London will see the hottest temperatures, with highs of 30C forecast.

Surrey and Hertfordshire will also see the mercury climb to 30C. South Yorkshire will also bask in the boiling 30C heat alongside parts of north east Wales.

Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire will all be just a degree cooler at 29C. East Wales will bask in highs of 28C, whilst the capital Cardiff will enjoy temperatures of around 27C as will Somerset.

Areas along the M4 corridor including Swindon, Bath, Reading and Bristol, will all see the mercury soar to boiling 27C.

Elsewhere, the east of England will see temperatures hover between 27C-28C. Those in East and West Sussex will see the mercury hover between 24C and 26C.

Meanwhile, Devon will see slightly cooler temperatures of around 24C-26C. However, northern England will miss out on the boiling temperatures. The north West will see 17C, however, the north East will see slightly higher temperatures of 24C.

In Scotland, Angus will see highs of 23C, however, the Highlands will hover between just 14C-16C.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Greg Wolverson, said: "A very warm period of weather will develop through the weekend and into next week for much of the UK.

"High pressure will be in charge of the UK's weather over the bank holiday weekend and this should bring fine and settled conditions to most areas.

"The exception will be parts of northwestern Scotland where it will be cooler and cloudier with some rain at times. There is also a small risk of some thunder in the south late on Friday into Saturday."
