Telangana is bracing for an intense heatwave with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heatwave alert for the next four days and has warned of further rise in temperatures. According to the IMD forecast, as many as 14 Telangana districts will be under a red alert on Thursday, while the remaining districts will be under an orange alert. The weather agency said that mercury is expected to rise gradually by one to two degrees Celsius, with some areas likely to record highs of up to 47 degrees Celsius. Hyderabad is also expected to witness soaring temperatures, with the mercury likely to cross the 43-degree Celsius mark.

A red alert for severe heatwave is in place for Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Suryapet and Nalgonda. Telangana recorded 46.5 degrees Celsius for the first time this summer season, marking its highest temperature yet.

Rainfall likely in some places

Besides the heatwave warning, the IMD also forecast light to moderate rainfall over the next three days. The IMD stated that light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in some districts today and tomorrow, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. However, dry weather conditions are expected to prevail from the following day onwards.

84 locations report heatwave in Telangana

Telangana continued to reel under intense heat on Wednesday, with heatwave conditions reported from as many as 84 locations across the state. The situation turned even more severe in two places—one each in Jangaon and Kumuram Bheem Asifabad districts—where authorities recorded severe heatwave conditions.

According to data from the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, Dilawarpur in Nirmal district emerged as the hottest location, recording a maximum temperature of 46.5°C. Several other districts also witnessed scorching conditions, with temperatures crossing the 46°C mark.

Hanamkonda and Karimnagar recorded 46.4°C each, while districts such as Peddapalli, Jagtial, Jangaon, Khammam, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Nizamabad reported temperatures ranging between 46.2°C and 46.3°C. The widespread spike highlights the intensity of the ongoing heatwave across Telangana.
