Karnataka Rains: Karnataka is expected to witness widespread rainfall on May 21 as pre-monsoon activity intensifies across the state. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for coastal and Malnad districts, warning of heavy rain and strong winds
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across several parts of Karnataka due to strong pre-monsoon winds. Coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are likely to receive intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for Malnad districts such as Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Mysuru. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 kmph in these areas, increasing the chances of local disruptions.
Bengaluru is expected to experience cloudy skies throughout the day, with rain and thunderstorms likely during the afternoon or evening hours. The city has already been witnessing fluctuating weather conditions over the past few days due to increasing pre-monsoon activity.
Apart from Bengaluru, districts in North Interior Karnataka including Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri and Bagalkote may also receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Residents have been advised to stay cautious during thunderstorm activity and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.
According to weather officials, the southwest monsoon is likely to enter Kerala by May 26. As a result, Karnataka is expected to continue experiencing similar weather conditions for the next three to four days.
Meteorologists believe the ongoing rainfall pattern is part of the seasonal transition leading to the arrival of the monsoon in South India. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, especially in regions vulnerable to waterlogging and strong winds.
