Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner faces limited options as potential exit approaches

Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner is currently considering his future and evaluating his next career move.

With several high-profile managers expected to change clubs this summer, the managerial merry-go-round is set to dominate football discussions in the coming weeks.

Among those preparing for a transition is Oliver Glasner, who has confirmed that he will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the current season.

Glasner could depart on a historic note, as the Eagles are gearing up for their first-ever European final — the UEFA Conference League decider against Rayo Vallecano.

Reports from Sport Bild suggest that Glasner’s initial plan was to step up to a bigger Premier League club following a largely positive stint with Palace.

However, his opportunities in England appear to be narrowing. Manchester United have decided to continue with Michael Carrick as their manager, while Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso.

That development could work in favour of Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen, who are said to have contacted Glasner but have yet to receive a response.

The Austrian tactician enjoyed considerable success in Germany during his time with Eintracht Frankfurt before moving to Selhurst Park, and he retains a strong reputation in German football circles.

Leverkusen, who stunned the football world by winning the Bundesliga title in 2024 under Alonso, have slipped to sixth place this season under Danish coach Kasper Hjulmand, who is expected to depart in the summer.

Although Glasner is currently focused on preparing for the Conference League final, reports indicate that Leverkusen are keen to finalise their managerial appointment by the end of the month.

Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether Glasner would view a switch to Leverkusen as the right move, as it may be seen as a lateral step rather than a promotion.

While Leverkusen have secured Europa League qualification, Palace could also do so if they triumph in the upcoming Conference League final.

Joining Leverkusen might offer Glasner a clearer route to managing in the UEFA Champions League in the future, but sources suggest that he has even greater ambitions.

According to FourFourTwo’s assessment, Glasner is likely to wait for a position that aligns better with his long-term goals, even if that means being patient a few months into the next season.
