Meenakshi Chaudhary has shared her thoughts on the ongoing discussion about introducing eight-hour workdays in the Hindi film industry. The actress said that greater discipline and planning would benefit everyone involved in filmmaking. Known for her work in Telugu and Tamil cinema, Meenakshi has become one of the most sought-after young actors in South India. She believes the industry is slowly moving toward a more organized working culture.
Meenakshi Chaudhary says she has done 18-hour shifts
In an interview with Variety, Meenakshi explained that filmmaking is a creative process and often involves challenges that make strict schedules difficult. She said, "While a little bit more discipline is required in the industry, this is a creative field; it can be hard to follow at times." Often, there are multiple people involved in this space, so it can get challenging. There are certain schedules where there is a limitation on the locations we have. I have done 18-hour shifts as well. I've done double call sheets because there's one film that is happening in the morning, and then there's another happening at night."
Meenakshi Chaudhary says better planning benefits everyone
The actress noted that stronger pre-production and streamlined schedules could reduce expenses and improve working conditions. She said, "But yes, it will be a great way for the producers to save money if we are more streamlined and if we prep beforehand. Then it becomes easier for everyone involved; the producers save money, and the artists have more energy left at the end of the day. But I do think the industry is now realizing that."
According to Meenakshi, structured planning can help both producers and performers. It can reduce unnecessary delays and make shoots more efficient. ‘Meenakshi also addressed the issue of unequal pay in the entertainment industry. She said discussions are underway, although meaningful change will take time. She stated, "This is something that people are becoming more aware of. Healthy discussions are on, but change does not happen overnight. It is going to take time. However, I'm so glad that I got the remuneration I asked for; I'm very grateful. I know what I bring to the table, and I get what I deserve."
Heartfelt words for Vijay
Meenakshi also spoke about Vijay after his swearing-in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu . She said, "I congratulated him right after the results were announced, and I was so happy for him. I assumed he would take a few days to reply, but he was very sweet and responded with a ‘thank you’ immediately. It was very, very nice and heartwarming to see that somebody you've worked with has reached such amazing heights and now the entire nation is talking about it. It’s truly something remarkable; history in the making."
At present, she is preparing for the release of ' Vrushakarma ' with Naga Chaitanya and is also working on an untitled film with Karthi.
