Ronald Koeman has provided a troubling update regarding the fitness of Jurrien Timber. The Arsenal defender is struggling with a groin injury that may rule him out of the upcoming Champions League final, and his availability for the World Cup is also uncertain at this stage.

Koeman offers bleak outlook on Timber’s condition

The Netherlands manager, Ronald Koeman, has expressed concern over Timber’s situation as the season nears its conclusion. The 24-year-old has been dealing with a persistent groin issue that has sidelined him during a decisive period for Arsenal.

Timber has not played since he was forced off during Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Everton on March 14. His absence has compelled manager Mikel Arteta to reorganize his defensive setup as the Gunners fight for major trophies. Arsenal still have two crucial fixtures left — a Premier League encounter with Crystal Palace and the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Koeman uncertain about Timber’s return

As the football calendar heads into its most important weeks, Koeman admitted that Timber’s recovery remains unpredictable, casting doubts over his involvement in both club and international competitions.

“Jurrien has been coping with this problem for quite a while,” Koeman stated on Ziggo’s Rondo programme. “He is working on his fitness to see if he can be ready for the Champions League final and to determine if he will be fit for the World Cup. It doesn’t look rosy right now.”

Injury setback at a decisive moment

Timber has established himself as an integral part of Arsenal’s defensive unit this season, having made 43 appearances across all competitions. Unfortunately, his groin injury has come at a pivotal time. Arsenal are on the brink of securing their first Premier League title in 22 years while also preparing for one of the biggest European matches in their modern history.

For Timber, the situation is personally significant. Missing the Champions League final would be a major blow, but Koeman’s remarks indicate that his participation in the upcoming World Cup could also be in jeopardy.

Arsenal defender racing against time

Arsenal’s immediate focus will be on their last league game against Crystal Palace, before turning their attention to the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Timber continues his rehabilitation process and remains hopeful of making a return in time to represent the Netherlands at the World Cup.
